FOSDEM is a two-day event organised by volunteers to promote the widespread use of free and open source software."
FOSDEM is taking place this year in the city of Brussels (Belgium) on January 30 and Junary 31 of 2027.
The page you are on right now is for one of many developer rooms for the Open Source Systems Languages track. This is a new developer room this year, where you can geek out about awesome non-mainstream programming languages.
If you are using a non-mainstream open source programming language -- we invite you to contribute a talk in our devroom!
A non-mainstream open source systems language would be something that allows low level programming, and is not a 'top-20' language on the TIOBE index. You don't care about popularity though, you want to do great engineering and are going to choose the right open source tool to get the work done. Talks can be about adoption of the open source language at your company, how the design of a language and some trade-off helped you, or otherwise a project you built and is cool and folks should know about. Language designers of open source languages are also invited to talk.
Dlang, Odin, C3, Lobster, Zig, Nim -- if programming languages like these (or others) make you excited -- submit a talk! Don't see your language in that list -- then definitely submit and tell the community it!
This year the organizers of this developer room are: Jose E. Marchesi, Iain Buclaw, and Mike Shah. Our developer room will take place on Sunday Afternoon of January 31, 2027. We will post the schedule below once it is finalized.
